Psst…Hey Spammer! Yes – YOU! You may not think you are a Spammer.
We forgive you for not knowing – but here’s Social Media Business Marketing Tip #1: Stop It!
Stop what??
Stop throwing up your business all over people all over the place online. Yuck! It’s a turn off people. Think of someone’s Facebook wall as their offline home.
- Would you knock on your new neighbor’s door – introduce yourself – and immediately tell them to “buy this or that” from you?
- Would you go to someone’s home and start posting banners about your business or whatever you’re marketing all over their walls?
- Would you tag the pictures and artwork on their living-room walls with stickers saying “click the link to join me now”?
- Would you come invited to a get-together – walk in the door – shut off the music and launch into your business opportunity presentation?
- Would you respond to everyone who hasn’t responded to your antics by saying “hey you haven’t responded – here’s the link again – click it” or “hey you haven’t responded – here’s the link again in case you forgot to buy this or that” or “hey you – you haven’t joined me yet – click the link”?
I would say… NOT! So if you wouldn’t do these things in the “real” world offline – why would you do it online?
If you are new to social media – your very first tip for marketing your business online is to STOP IT.
Stop the Spamming. Stop “spray painting” your business all over people’s personal Facebook or other social media walls. Stop sending messages blatantly beating people over the head with your “buy-join-pay-now” links.
People DO NOT CARE about what you do – your business – or what you have to sell or offer – UNTIL they know how much you CARE!
Don’t lead with a Louisville Slugger beating people over the head with your marketing efforts. Lead with value.
Now that you are a reformed Spammer – help your friends with their own “intervention” and share this post. Let’s rid the online community of spammers. (smile).

Hi Ayanna,
Great post, I was laughing as I was reading it because that was the old me before I found Attraction Marketing.
Thanks for sharing.
Hey Ruth!
I totally understand why you were cracking up. LOL! I was cracking up when I wrote it. I did the exact same thing. You do better when you know better.
Thanks for your feedback.
Ayanna
Awesome article!
thanks Rada!
cute baby in your gravatar!
Ayanna
Thanks for your Delightful post!! So many FB Network Marketers think this is perfectly Ok to do. Another Horrific tactic is to send a private message with several paragraphs of why your biz-opp is something I can’t live without…and the person hasn’t even FB Friended me!! LoL
Truly Unbelievable!! Do they Really believe that people will sign up & follow them as a Leader with those types of social skills & audacious conduct?? NOT. LoL…
So yes, this message is important to share. Especially since I just had someone I know, but haven’t heard from in over a year, post their new biz-opp to my wall. They call themselves a Leader, but I have a different opinion of them now. They seriously need a lesson in social engagement skills!!
Keep up the great work Hun!!!
xo
Hey Alina
Girl – that is too funny! LOL! Thankfully we are here to help people understand that you have to build relationships with people not bop them over the head with whatever it is you are offering.
Ayanna
I totally agree, it’s not going to get you anywhere!
Ayanna:
Great advice.
Deliver value, let people convince themselves as to the value you deliver. A prospect who convinces themselves as to the value of your offering is a much stronger prospect than one you have to convince.
Hiya Mike!
Absolutely! I couldn’t agree with you more. Amateurs convince.
Great post Ayanna. If I am invited somewhere on FB to check a ‘post’ out and land instead on a biz-op telling me to ‘sign up for this…’ or ‘free training, just click here…’ guess what,I am gone and wont come back again. I wish people would read your post, it is really good explained. I had to chuckle while I read it and visualized it.
Thanks for the feedback Gabriele. Glad I could add a laugh to your day!
Thank you for this post – I was looking for a gentle way to let a fellow colleague know that he was spamming. He had no idea whatsoever. He created a facebook group about his niche business and added members involuntarily. Basically, all he did was sell his business.
Hi Kathleen! Glad I could help. People don’t understand that marketing online on social media is an entirely different way of doing business. There are rules of etiquette.
Good post Ayanna, a lot of persons really don’t know and there are some that when you try to tell them or advise them differently they want to all but ‘curse you out’.
